Distinguished Conduct Medal
Citation:
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when, finding a gap in the line
caused by shell fire, he proceeded to it to get men into position to fill it.
On his way he encountered an enemy post, which he tackled single-handed
killing seven men. he then arranged for the closing of the gap.
Recommendation:
During the operations South of RORLENCOURT, near ALBERT, on night 10/11 June
1918, this N.C.O. finding there was a gap in the line caused by enemy shell
fire, made for it with the intention of bringing a platoon to fill it. On his
way he came across an enemy post. He tackled this single-handed and killed
seven Huns, wiping out the post. He then filled the gap and carried on the
assault sucessfully.

Recommendation for award of Bronze Medal for Military Valour (Italy)
The recommendation read:
On Oct 11th 1917 during attack on Zonebeke, he went forward from our captured
objective with his party over two strong points under exceptionally heavy
shell fire. His utter disregard of present danger set a fine example to his
men.
